CHARACTER DESIGN
Pest Of Rage
The Brief:
The challenge was to create a character
for a game magazine cover that signifies
the element of adversary, with reference
to poses by other action heroes. Produce
custom illustrative fonts for the magazine
and game title. Include a traditional
medium hand-drawn background.
Design Concept:
I decided to develop the concept of a
robotic mouse seeking revenge for being
tested on through harsh experimentation
and being traumatised of loss and pain.
The design was influenced by a mixture
of references such as Ironman and War
Machine for the posture and poses.
Tools Used:
Adobe Illustrator was used to create
the custom title fonts and the character.
Adobe InDesign was used in the
development of the layout of the magazine
cover. The hand-drawn element was for the
background of the character created with
graphite pencil for sketching then felt tip
pen to finalise the drawing.

This is the hand-made drawing required to be created with traditional media for the background of the magazine cover. The drawing took 22 hoursto create with the use of pencilto create the rough sketch and the outline with felt tip pen using stippling effect for certain areas to differentiate between clouds and solid buildings. Although colour could be used, I decided it was more effective as black and white in bringing out the character and fonts for the magazine cover, giving it a retro look. The concept was to create a mysterious, unsettled scene with smoke or clouds covering the region andto emphasise on the rodent/pest on the billboard on the building with cheese. The word "CHAOS"on the billboard conveys that this is a chaotic time.
